Co-determination in Germany
Co-determination in Germany defines a set of rights that give employees the possibility of actively participating in the shaping of their working environment. This includes legally stipulated Co-determination rights, companyinternal agreements devised in conjunction with union contracts as well as informal determination possibilities that have arisen from Co-determination practice.
Co-determination at company level: Participating in the future?
There is a global debate on Corporate Governance. In Germany a commission on this issue, set up by Chancellor Schröder in the year 2000, presented its results in the summer of 2001. Shaping the Co-determination of the Future
At its sixth and final meeting on 22 April 1998 the Kommission Mitbestimmung (Codetermination Commission) unanimously adopted the following "Recommendations: Shaping the Co-determination of the Future". The Commission had been set up back in 1996 by the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Hans Böckler Foundation with the aim of collating the practical experiences gained with co-determination and of
offering advice and making recommendations on the way it should be developed in future.
